Stress and the College Student

I recently came upon a clever way to help with stress and the college student. It will take just a bit of effort on the part of the student, but it can help quite a bit.

Most college students struggle financially, unless they happen to come from a wealthy family that is generous! I don’t remember how much my books cost (probably because I had a scholarship and didn’t know what was going on anyway), but I do know that my daughter’s books are very expensive.

It finally dawned on me that she could be saving money on her book purchases and making money on the side at the same time. Here is what happened: I simply paid for her books the first semester when she bought them from the school bookstore. It seemed like the prices were just way too high, so I checked out a few other places online and they were much cheaper, plus she could get used ones and resell them later on.

As a webmaster I am an affiliate of many companies. I represent their products and get paid a commission from any and all sales that are made through my websites. It is a great deal for everyone involved, win-win-win. The company I use is called Linkshare and it is fantastic.

Anyway, Emily, my daughter, ordered her books the second semester through one of my affiliate companies, Amazon.com. She also checked out another called textbookx.com. Not only did she get all the books she needed, but they were much less expensive than the school bookstore.

An added benefit was the commission I earned by simply showing her my Amazon.com banner and making sure she clicked on it when she ordered her books.

Now here is the way to help with the stress and the college student: Emily can talk to her friends and have them do the same thing. She could even become and affiliate herself, if she had a website or blog that was approved by Linkshare. As she gathers a few friends to order their books the same way, they will save money and she will earn a commission! Brilliant!

If she wanted to, which I’m sure she doesn’t, she could even “advertise” in a small way to get even more friends to do the same. Everyone wins, except the bookstore, and they already charge way too much anyway!

The only “hard part” is that they must click on the link or banner everytime they order. If they forget, no commission. But if they remember, it doesn’t take long and her own books are “free”!
