Staycations or Vacations

Staycations or Vacations

With the high price of gasoline and diesel many vacations plans are being put on hold. A 2000 mile trip or even a 600 mile trip is stretching the budgets of many people.

The problem is that vacations are part of refreshing and regrouping our lives. We look forward to our one or two weeks off each year. Many have four weeks and can travel across the country with time to spare.

Suddenly the price of gasoline has gone off the charts. Fuel price are so high that people on budgets need to cut their driving distances.

At home, people are planning trips to the store to coincide with a trip to the post office. Many are car pooling for the first time. It is becoming important to make sure each mile counts.

Many people cannot figure out what they can do for a vacation this year. For the first time fuel is so high priced it is making people rethink their annual time off.

A lot of people are thinking about staying home this year instead of going somewhere on vacation. This is a good plan for keeping a tight reign on the budget, but it does not do a lot for our need for R&R (rest and recreation). People look forward to getting away. They want to go far from home and all of its demands.

One answer is to plan a “staycation Plan” instead of a vacation plan. Staycation is becoming a popular word. You hear it in the news, read about it in your local morning paper. A staycation is simply doing what you do on a vacation, but doing it close to home instead of traveling.

Probably many think of just kicking back on the couch and taking a couple weeks off doing nothing is the answer. This is not a vacation. A vacation involves activities, pools, lakes, the ocean and getting away from it all.

The neat thing is that you can “get away from it all” right in your own back yard. Back yard in the broad since of close to home and in the literal sense of right behind your home in your own yard. This is a staycation.

If you are going to have a staycation you should plan it as carefully as you would plan a vacation. Get your local map and create a circle around your location. This is a mileage circle which defines the distance you will travel. It could be 5 miles or 100 miles.

Next, look at all that you have within that circle. Are there streams, lakes, the beach or mountains? How many paid attractions are within the area? Will there be a fair of any kind in your town or three towns away? Be creative and you can find many enjoyable activities.

Look for the things you enjoy doing but are so close to home you seldom take advantage of them because they are close. Also watch your local newspaper for events your family might enjoy. Your newspaper event calendar has an amazing amount of things that go on in your area that you probably are not aware of.

With some strategic planning you can have a great staycation vacation very close to home. You could even pitch a tent in the back yard and have a campout.

How fun all of this will be is all in your state of mind. If you believe it will be a bummer having to “miss” out on a “real” vacation, you might not enjoy a staycation. However if you decide, that the important part of a vacation is spending time with your family doing things you do not do everyday, you can turn this time off into a wonderful staycation full of fun and relaxation. It is all in the planning.

A Vacation in Vienna

Share

Vienna can astonish you when it comes to fancy and elegant hotels. If you want to see some of the world’s most famous sites, big and full of history museum and purely divine cathedrals, then you must know that here you can find them all First, we have to mention the Belleview galleries, a palace constructed for Prince Eugene de Savoy. This was the summer location of the Savoy Prince. So many rooms are found is this so called summer locations, that it’s almost bigger than the primary royal residence. Inside the palace, decorating it’s many room are many art works that constitute today’s museum. The superior galleries present a nice and valuable selection of international and Austrian art, while the inferior galleries expose art from medieval and baroque times.

Hotel accommodations that are placed near-by the Belleview are quite expensive and amongst them are some for the most famous hotels all over the world. Vienna is known for its eccentric entertainment shows and also for its extremely luxurious lifestyle. Anyone who wishes to book a room in these extravagant hotels must be prepared with some extra money, because they cost pretty much, but must also be ready to experience the most relaxant and fulfilling vacation in their lives.

Another famous location in Vienna is the Imperial Palace. This is the biggest Palace in Vienna, which used to serve as a location for country rulers. So much history enclosed within his ruined walls, so many emperors that enhanced it, a very unforgettable place. As you can see, the Imperial Palace was affected by the passing of time, and it is in ruins now. People working here are making great efforts to rebuilt the Palace, using modern equipments, skid steer auger equipments, excavators and construction ladders.

The only whole thing that still stands is The Chapel, a place that has been reconditioned and is open to visitors. Art museums that are full of art collection that belonged to the royal family surround the Chapel.

There is no need to try and find a hotel accommodation right besides these fabulous locations if we simply want to fully enjoy Vienna without spending a fortune. Less luxurious hotels that are strategically located have low prices, trying to attract more tourists this way. In these cheap hotels you can find single room, double rooms or even three roomed apartments for the entire family. Because people that book into these hotel will be traveling a lot to get o visit the city, they don’t always offer three meals a day, so choose the location wisely.

Learn How to Make Any Treasure (Even the One’s You Don’t Like) Work for Someone!

Share

Think of all the junk you’ve received (and given).  Don’t you wish there was a better way?  I will show you a better way.  In my opinion the best gifts to give anyone are coffee gift baskets.

In this day and age we’re lucky if we get a fruit cake, don’t count on getting gift baskets.  I will give you some ideas of what to do with those unwanted gifts.

Everyone has been given a gift that is just-not-what-you-had-in-mind.  You can donate it to a worthy cause, or post it on www.freecycle.com where everything donated is free to users.  You might bury the unwanted gift in a box where you may never run into it again.  Whatever you do don’t throw the gift away.

We all know about re-gifting, a hazardous and often unpleasant practice.  Re-gifting is usually never a welcomed custom.  Most importantly if the person that gave you the gift finds out.  There are numerous ways to put the gift to use, without the awkward and deliberate re-wrapping and passing of the gift.

1.  Create a “Treasure Box.”  I use a large tote.  Be sure to mark the item with whom it is from.

2. Place gifts that are of no use to you in the treasure chest.

3. Make sure to lump together similar items, i.e. electronics.

4. Group together items for your re-gift.  Take DVDs for an example.  Take the DVDs, and place them in a gift bag with a bow. You can add to the theme of the gift by including popcorn.  If you are giving the DVDs to an adult or family, put in a homemade gift certificate for one night of free babysitting (if they have kids).  The trick is to only purchase small items that add up to a big gift.  Make sure that you are not giving the gift back to the individual that gave it to you.

With a bit of experience and personalization re-gifting can be acceptable and fun (as long as you don’t get caught!)

If you want to end the nightmare of looking for the right gift consider giving a Gift Basket.  There’s no better place to find a gift basket than at Nectar of Life Organic Coffee Company.

Why go to Devon?

Share

Lets be honest with the current downturn everyone is fed up with all of the town/city life and what everyone needs is a break for a few days to a nice area in which there are several things to do with the family. So go on take one of those family holidays and treat you and your family.

The brilliant Eden Project-
This is easily the most famous attraction in Devon and one of the most famous in the country and has something for the entire family to take part in. The giant Rainforest and Mediterranean biomes are amazing to look and to learn and understand exactly what lives in each of them. Bands such as the Kooks play there every summer so theres no excuse for not visiting if you are a fan of Indy music.

The Living coasts
This is my personal favourite as I love coastal animals so this one really does appeal to me. Basically you go through a tour of the worlds coastal creatures with ever changing environments. See animals such as penguins, seals and puffins. This is a great way for people to learn all about the creatures that live around the coastal areas of the world.

Beaches-
As well as all of this you have the five famous beaches. Torre Abbey Sands,  Oddicombe, Meadfoot, Paignton and Goodrington. Two of these five beaches have got the yellow flag award but that isnt to say the other three aren't simply amazing because they are fantastic.

There it is in a nutshell, brilliant reasons why you should pack up and go to Devon the next time you are on holiday. It's a place for everyone not just old couples but every member of the family will enjoy something here. If you are still not convinced why not try one of the dancing holidays or even one of the bowling holidays if that’s what you are in to. Whatever it is you choose to do it is certain you enjoy yourself.

Keep the whole family fit and having fun by going on holiday

Share

The media is full of horror stories about obesity and bad health in children caused by lazy lifestyles, lack of exercise and a bad diet. It might seem like we’re just being guilt tripped, like they’re just trying to scare us into doing something about it but it’s a very real issue. The problem is it’s sometimes difficult to know what to do about it. Most people would make changes if they could but are often too busy to do anything about it, or simply haven’t noticed that it could apply to their family.

It can be pretty hard to convince children that something is in their best interests if it’s not something they want to do, so getting them to exercise if they’d rather be sat playing computer games can be like getting blood out of stone. But it’s far from being impossible. UK Family holidays at great hotels like TLH in Torquay offer a huge range of activities and sports for the whole family that are sure to get kids active and enjoying themselves whilst keeping fit. From swimming pools and fully equipped gyms to tennis courts to tenpin bowling and air hockey, there are loads of activities that will give the whole family a break from the TV and computers, and get you out there having fun and keeping fit.

As well as active sports there are also lots of other activities and entertainments for all ages, including a kids club and TeenZone where children can get some time away from their parents and meet up with others their own age. While the kids are keeping themselves amused adults can relax in a spa, or take on one of the special themed breaks like golf, bowling and dancing holidays, which are sure to be great fun and help you to keep fit too.

A family holiday at a leisure resort is a great way to make the most of the school holidays and do something together that the whole family will enjoy. And the best part is that it won’t break the bank. Since the recession hit more and more people are choosing for the ‘staycation’ option rather than travel abroad, and family destinations within the UK are more popular than ever.

Why Wales could be the perfect destination for cash-strapped holidaymakers in the credit crunch

Share

More and more people are deciding not to go abroad for their holidays this year, but are instead choosing to stay at home and avoid the cost and stress of travelling. The credit crunch has affected a lot of people and many are finding themselves short of money to spend on luxuries like holidays. The recession combined with the current strength of the euro against the pound, means it’s really not surprising that the number of UK holidaymakers choosing to visit traditionally popular European destinations like Spain and Portugal has plummeted.

In fact, according to figures released by the European Commission 48 per cent of Europeans intend to spend their holidays in their own countries this year, that’s five per cent higher than in 2008. Those who are still planning to travel abroad are spending much more time shopping around for the cheapest deals, and booking in advance on the internet to save on cost.

The credit crunch may be bad news for the Spanish tourism industry, but for UK destinations like Wales it could be just the thing they’ve been waiting for. Not only are many UK holidaymakers looking at destinations closer to home this year, but the weak pound could bring in more visitors from mainland Europe as well.

Wales is the perfect destination in the UK with a huge variety of things to see and do and places to stay, from hotels to camping to rented flats and holiday cottages. The scenery is stunning, from the world famous mountains and valleys to the beautiful coastline which has been awarded with no less than 43 blue flag awards for water quality, cleanliness and safety. There is no shortage of options for walking, exploring or activity holidays, including abseiling, water sports and ‘coasteering’ right along the stunning coast. So if you’re looking for a UK destination this summer whether you’re planning a family holiday, romantic getaway or a short break Wales could be the choice for you.

For something a bit different this summer, why not try a Welsh activity holiday

Share

Climbing, abseiling and other outdoor activities are becoming more and more popular, and with the credit crunch meaning many of us can’t take our usual holidays abroad maybe now is the time to embrace the great outdoors and try something a bit more challenging this summer. The UK, and especially Wales, has loads of amazing locations where you can go and try out all sorts of exciting, fun and thrilling experiences. So regardless of whether you’re an experienced adventurer or a first-time explorer, you’re sure to find something that will suit you.

Wales has some of the most stunning scenery in the UK, and is the perfect setting for activity holidays, with its famous mountains and craggy coastlines for climbing, beautiful rolling hills and valleys for walking holidays and long, sandy beaches with clear seas for water sports. There is an adventure waiting for everyone whatever your level of experience, whether you’re looking for the adrenalin rush of scaling the famous Welsh mountains or just want to relax and appreciate the views.

Or if you want to try something a bit different, Wales is the home of ‘coasteering’, a wild combination of scrambling, climbing, traversing, cliff jumping and swimming that was first developed on the Pembrokeshire coast. All the activities are available to people of all levels of experience and you will be with a trained instructor, so even if you’ve never done more than climb the stairs at home, you’ll still be able to give it a go.

There is a huge range of different types of accommodation for holidaymakers across the country, from hotels to self catering flats and holiday cottages in the countryside. So whatever type of new experience you’re looking for and whatever activities you want to try, a short break in Wales could be the answer for an exciting, different and affordable holiday this summer.

Money Saving Suggestions for Decorating Your House with Flowers This Holiday Season

Share

Holidays do not have to be unexciting and monotonous when you can’t afford to spend a lot of money. Numerous local flower shops offer unique holiday flowers that you can choose without draining your wallet. This extensive flower shops database will surely list a florist shop nearest you.

When you are decorating your home in the holiday season, there are some key elements that you must incorporate in your decor. Wreaths are usual decorating elements that you should have in your hause as part of your holiday ornamentation. A small crown of evergreens may be combined with small number of pine cones and lined with red and green ribbons. You may add a bough of evergreen with pine cones to your mantel on top of your fireplace. Topiaries in regular vases also make beautiful mantel accent elements.

lights are of course basis of holiday home decorating. The artificial flashing of lights cannot compare with the enjoyable glimmer of red and orange candle flames. Small candle glasses can be used to support tea lights around your house. Beautify these glasses sparsely with flowers by tying bunch of blooms around its base with a length of red, gold and white ribbon. You may also tealights around a shallow plate of short stemmed flowers. This scenery can be placed on your table to give your living room the warm holiday glow that creates fantasies of eggnogs and snow angels.

Cylindrical candles of different heights may be used as wonderful elements of centerpieces. You can attach other decorations and flowers into the candles body for a more gala look. Bigger hurricane candles in bright colors may be great decorations with its elegant stance and subtle glow. As an alternative of your typical popcorn garland, hang pinecone garlands on your guardrail and mantel for that outdoorsy look and feel. Colorful ribbons can be intertwined with the pinecone garlands.

Florists can help you get the wonderful look you want with the financial resources that are available to you. Discounts on holiday flower arrangements are available at different websites so you do not have to pay a lot of money for decorations that will only be used for a period of three months. If you live in Seattle, find Seattle flower shop.

Holiday flower arrangements can be ordered from many florists. They will provide you with the kind of flowers you wish to decorate your home during the holidays. You may even pay to send a holiday flower arrangement to a special friend as a way of conveying holiday cheer. Do not spend all your money on holiday decorations that will only last for a month or two. Opt for holiday flower arrangements that are affordable, suitable, yet original and special pieces that you can treasure in your memories for a long time.
