Family stress

Until a seventy year old therapist looked right at me and sincerely
asked me what my secret was, it never really occurred to me that I
had one at all. However, it was instantly clear to me just what my
secret was, actually I had several.
This was a period in my life that was extremely stressful. In fact, my friends suggested that I see
this highly recommended therapist, just to make sure I was OK.
Save your marriage
According to him, I should have either been hospitalized, had a stroke or gone stark raving mad due
to the high stress levels I was experiencing and had been subject to for quite some time.
He literally told me he had nothing to recommend, and sincerely wanted to know my secret of how to
deal with stress. Once I began explaining how I processed life's difficulties, it began to make
sense.
By the time you finish reading this you will at least possess the
knowledge that I have gained over a long period of time, through
many trials and tribulations. Because I wanted answers, and was
open enough to listen, I learned.
Nobody is born knowing much of anything, other than the most
basic instincts. We have all been taught everything we know, either
by somebody else or by our own experiences.
Have an open mind
With an open mind and a willing heart, anyone can increase their understanding and wisdom. Learning
how to deal with stress is no different.
The difference in knowledge and wisdom lies in the doing. Many
people know the answers, but fail to apply them when most
needed. Also, nothing in nature seems to go in a straight line, so
you cannot expect to always make progress.
Unfortunately, we learn by our mistakes. The key is to learn from them and repeat them as little as
possible.

It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.”

Probably the biggest mistake we make is thinking that we know
something as well as we should know it.
I remember something I said to my mother-in-law during one of our
first conversations. She was trying to give me advice about
marriage and family.
In my twenty-two year old arrogance I told
her something like, "Oh, I already know about that. Running a
family is about the same as running a business." What a dumb thing
to say!
On top of it, I knew absolutely nothing about running a
business, unless you count my paper-route when I was twelve.
So, if you can accept the fact that you know nothing as well as you
ought to, and are willing to learn by doing, then you will benefit
from the wisdom in these pages.
Nobody can pour water into a glass that is already full. Take the time to learn the principles, put
them to the test and you will gradually learn how to deal with stress much better than you ever thought
possible.
